Prayer Request
One of my friends is expecting a child, but he's decided that life in the womb is too good to leave. She's going to be induced tomorrow morning. Prayers would be appreciated.

UPDATE
Both mother and baby are doing well. After laboring for 10 hours, she was only dialated 3cm and the baby had not moved down far enough so the doctor decided to perform a c-section. Which ended up being a good thing because he wasn't going to fit- he has a 14in head circumference! The mother is completely thrilled with her adorable baby boy, who barely cries or fusses.

Nun Update
Sister JMuck is now in San Francisco and has taken the name Sister Jean Bernadette. She's using the French male pronounciation of Jean (like, Jean Valjean from Les Miserables).

No Way!
I can't believe this is available on DVD! I loved this movie. We have a copy on VHS around here somewhere that my parents taped when it aired on HBO back in the 80s. I may have to buy this!

Confounded

The other day I could hear Bill O'Reilly on a TV in the living room while I was baking, griping and generally having a fit about the phrase "Happy Holidays." Then on Tuesday my friend showed me a Christmas card from her ex-boyfriend that said "Happy Holidays, or Merry Christmas for you right wing religious nuts!" My friend tried to explain that she was not offended by "Happy Holidays" and he replied "Well you should be, because you're Catholic. Ask Jeanetta, I bet she's offended!" I was not.

Etymology of the word holiday:
[Middle English holidai, holy day, from Old English halig dæg : halig, holy; see holy dæg, day; see day.]

Etymology and Usage Notes of the word Xmas:
[From X, the Greek letter chi, first letter of Greek Khristos, Christ. See Christ.]
Usage Note: Xmas has been used for hundreds of years in religious writing, where the X represents a Greek chi, the first letter of Χριστος, “Christ.” In this use it is parallel to other forms like Xtian, “Christian.” But people unaware of the Greek origin of this X often mistakenly interpret Xmas as an informal shortening pronounced (eks' mas). Many therefore frown upon the term Xmas because it seems to them a commercial convenience that omits Christ from Christmas.

I am confused as to why both the "baptised in a swimming pool because that is so very similar to the Jordan River ya'll and shut up about the Peter is Petros and Petra thing" evangelicals on the right and the "I don't believe in God because I pretend I'm above everyone else because people were mean to me in high school because I purposefully acted in a way that I thought would make people think I was crazy for attention and I'm still emotionally twelve" left would think I find Merry Xmas and Happy Holidays offensive. Indeed, of the many holy days being celebrated now I do hope to have a merry Xmas and a happy new year (a holiday: the Solemnity Mary Mother of God). I also hope my Jewish friends have a wonderful 8 holy days in a row.

Unless Bing Crosby was a raging communist and his catchy little holiday tunes were a pinko plot devised to destroy all religion and we all bought into because he was always playing a good Catholic priest in the movies. I don't understand how both people claiming to be Christians and people trying to annoy Christians because they have no lives can interpret "may the calendar keep bringing happy holidays to you" as an attack on Christianity.

Seriously, it almost makes me look like a moderate!

Since Sam Is Whining
I'm too busy to post, but since Sam left three comments about my lack of posting, consider this an update. I'm starting a new job on January 2nd. It's at the same company, but one step up on the food chain. Instead of being a direct care worker I'll be managing a group home and have 4 direct care workers under my supervision. The pay is still not good, but better than my current wage, and the hours are much better. Yay for me. Hey, who knows, maybe once I start my new job and have weekends off I'll get back to posting here. < /self-congratulatory update >
